Also on Liverpool Road – Rajdoot Tandoori in Albert Square, Zaika at the Great Northern Tower, Imli by Lal Qila on Deansgate and Zouk Tea Bar and Grill in Chester Street.

And just a few hundred yards down the road Bollywood Masala, which claims to take its inspiration from the extravagance of the Indian film industry, beat Cafe Lahore in Oldham and Spice Valley in Bolton for the north west crown.

But despite the numerous take-aways in the city both nominees from Manchester, Abduls Food To Go and Withington’s Indian Spice, lost out to Preston-based fast food restaurant Indian Express.

Yasmin Mahmood, Operations Director of event organisers Oceanic Consulting said: “To be amongst such passionate people who love what they do is truly inspiring. The English Curry Awards aims to recognise that dedication.
